Christian Science Nursing Services at Sunrise Haven
Nursing care includes, as needed:
- 24-hour care
- Assistance with personal care
- Help with mobility (getting up, walking, lifting, etc.)
- Nourishing meals and food modifications, as needed
- Providing for patients who are receiving care in bed
- Cleansing and bandaging
In addition, Christian Science nurses lovingly support patients’ individual study and prayer by reading aloud, as needed, the Bible, Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures and other Christian Science literature.

Sunrise Haven and its Christian Science nurses ensure a safe environment for patients. Appropriate activity, such as walks indoors and out; meals; entertainment, such as online events, lectures, hymns and movies in the Day Room are offered every day; and Sunday and Wednesday church services.
Outpatient care
Assists those who need immediate attention, but who don’t require an overnight stay. Examples of care include:
- Cleansing or bandaging
- Constructing a sling
- Demonstrating how to safely use crutches

Confidentiality
The confidentiality of all information concerning patients and other guests is of the utmost importance at Sunrise Haven. The ethical standards upheld by Christian Science nurses and all staff derive from the teachings of Christian Science, which maintain the confidential relationship between Christian Science nurse and patient as well as between Christian Science practitioner and patient.
Maintaining confidentiality is also a federal law known as HIPAA (Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996). This law requires that all organizations, such as Sunrise Haven, protect the privacy of patients in a variety of ways. We adhere to the letter and spirit of this law. Upon admittance to Sunrise Haven, a patient will be asked to review and sign the document, “Sunrise Haven Patient Privacy Information/HIPAA Privacy Notice,” which describes how information regarding the services received at Sunrise Haven may be used and disclosed to others.
Accommodations
Sunrise Haven’s beautiful, modern facility opened in 2001 at its current location in Kent, Washington, about 30 minutes south of Seattle. The building is set in a quiet residential area and is surrounded by lovely landscaping full of native Pacific Northwest plantings.
Patients are cared for in private rooms with ensuite bathrooms. Rooms are outfitted to support healing, including an adjustable bed, a lift chair recliner, an easy access shower and a private telephone. Audio broadcasts of Christian Science hymns, the weekly Bible Lesson and Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures as well as Sunday and Wednesday church services are available in each room.
